A small blip in the total hours I will run preparing for this race. Sure, some of the time running I was listening to music, podcasts, or zoning out, but I try and use my time running to think and pray. Something I have found myself coming back to on my runs recently is “eat the frog”. It's a weird saying, but I’ve heard it used mainly in regards to getting the hardest or least desirable thing done off your to-do list first in the day. The idea comes from a mark Twain quote where he says \\\"If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.\\\" The idea is that it can help you make real progress and build momentum for the day. It's helpful, but I've been thinking about it in an even broader context.\",\"type\":\"text\",\"version\":1}],\"direction\":\"ltr\",\"format\":\"\",\"indent\":0,\"type\":\"paragraph\",\"version\":1,\"textFormat\":0,\"textStyle\":\"\"},{\"children\":[{\"detail\":0,\"format\":0,\"mode\":\"normal\",\"style\":\"\",\"text\":\"I’ve found myself telling myself to just eat the frog when I don’t really feel like doing something, but know I need to do it. You would think that eventually I would learn the workout is almost never as bad as it seems. By just diving into something, it helps me get over the hump and start making progress towards whatever I need to get done. There have been many a days I have drawn out a long to-do list thinking that getting a lot done today is the best way to make progress, but a lot of times I just get overwhelmed or distracted and it lead to less progress. On the other hand, if we break down one high leverage thing that we want to get done and do that consistently, I am always impressed with the progress I can make. I can’t prepare myself for a 100 mile race in two weeks, but if I keep chipping away and eat the frog over and over, I might actually get it done.
